Industry-Recognised Allergens We Use

At MyAllergyMenu, accuracy and safety are at the heart of our service. To ensure restaurants and diners receive information they can trust, we follow the globally recognised allergen standards set by food authorities across the UK, Europe, USA, and Dubai/UAE.

This unified framework allows us to provide clear, consistent allergen filtering — no matter the cuisine or restaurant type.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom — Food Standards Agency (FSA)

The FSA requires food businesses to declare 14 major allergens. These form the foundation of MyAllergyMenu’s allergen database:

  1. Celery

  2. Cereals containing gluten (e.g., wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt)

  3. Crustaceans

  4. Eggs

  5. Fish

  6. Lupin

  7. Milk

  8. Molluscs

  9. Mustard

  10. Peanuts

  11. Sesame seeds

  12. Soya

  13. Sulphur dioxide & sulphites

  14. Tree nuts (e.g., almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, Brazil nuts)

These are the allergens legally required on UK menus and labels, and form the core of our filtering system.

🇪🇺 European Union (EU)

The EU Food Information for Consumers (EU FIC) legislation adopts the same 14 allergens as the UK list above.

This means EU restaurants and food businesses follow identical allergen disclosure rules, making our system fully aligned with European standards.

🇺🇸 United States — Food & Drug Administration (FDA)

The FDA recognises 9 major allergens:

  1. Milk

  2. Eggs

  3. Fish

  4. Crustacean shellfish

  5. Tree nuts

  6. Peanuts

  7. Wheat

  8. Soybeans

  9. Sesame (added as the 9th major allergen in 2023)

Although this list is shorter, we incorporate all US-recognised allergens into our database to accommodate international menus and visitors.

🇦🇪 Dubai / UAE — Food Safety Department

Dubai Municipality references international best practices (including Codex Alimentarius) and requires clear declaration of common global allergens, typically including:

  • Gluten

  • Crustaceans

  • Eggs

  • Fish

  • Milk

  • Peanuts

  • Tree nuts

  • Soybeans

  • Sesame

  • Sulphites

We follow these guidelines to ensure accuracy for restaurants serving Middle Eastern or international guests.
